5 Reasons You Should Dive Magic Island's House Reef

Magic Island Dive Resort in Moalboal, Cebu offers more than 30 dive sites, all accessible within 20 minutes by one of the Banka boats. One of the dive sites is the amazing house reef. Why? Because of these 5 reasons:

1. Ease of access

You can access the house reef right from the dive center.
You can access the house reef right from the dive center.

The house reef of Magic Island is truly a ‘House Reef’ located directly in front of the dive center. High tide is the best time to dive and at the highest level, you can literally giant stride from the dive center onto the house reef. From there you have a short swim over a rocky seaweed area before you reach the hard and soft coral gardens and the 200 ft drop off.

2. Turtles!

Who doesn’t love to see turtles? No matter how many you have seen they always manage to put a smile on your face. Maybe it’s the graceful way they glide through the water or the ever-smiling face they have. It’s almost a grantee to see them on Magic Island’s house reef, with 6-8 being common and 17 being the record for a single dive. If you want to see how they manage to become so many, check out the video below!

3. Shaun the Sheep

This little nudibranch is a favorite among photographers due to its sheep-like appearance and the difficulty in finding it. It’s the size of a pinhead (hence the difficulty to find it) and is only found on certain types of algae. The difficulty in finding something is not often related to its prestige but, it is very much a big part of it and this little critter can be found right on the doorstep of Magic Islands house reef.

4. Flexibility

Whether you like deep, shallow, reef or muck, it’s all possible on this house reef. The wall descends to 200 ft, allowing for tech dives and its shallowest point is at 6 ft so, even snorkelers are covered. It’s not common to have a strong current which makes it a great training dive for all levels (except drift specialty) and the flat shallow areas are great for confined water training. Magic Island allows none guided dives and its open 24/7!

5. Repeat-ability

As mentioned above the flexibility of this house reef is second to none, this greatly improves its “repeatability”. You can do it first thing in the morning as a deep reef dive, then a shallow reef dive followed by an afternoon snorkel and then an evening dive to see the Mandarin Fish.  That’s a whole day of diving and there is still a hundred different ways you could dive this amazing house reef.
